Description

Long pepper (Piper longum), sometimes called Indian long pepper (Pipli), is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae, cultivated for its fruit, which is usually dried and used as a spice and seasoning. Long pepper has a taste similar to, but hotter than, that of its close relative Piper nigrum - from which black, green and white pepper are obtained.

Uses

It is given with amalaki, to treat anemia.

The decoction of the plant is used in sciatica and hemiplegia.

The herb is mixed with honey to control hiccups.

Long pepper is used as an aphrodisiac, since it boosts the reproductive system.

It is used as a sedative in insomnia and epilepsy.

The infusion of the herb’s root is used after childbirth, to induce the expulsion of the placenta
