Tamil Name - அத்திக்காய் வத்தல் - Aththikai Vaththal 

Ficus carica is an Asian species of flowering plants in the mulberry family, known as the common fig (or just the fig). It is the source of the fruit also called the fig, and as such is an important crop in those areas where it is grown commercially. Native to the Middle East and western Asia, it has been sought out and cultivated since ancient times and is now widely grown throughout the world, both for its fruit and as an ornamental plant. The species has become naturalized in scattered locations in Asia and North America.

It is said that a mixture of powder of its fruits and paste of vidari kand when taken with milk, even an old person turns young. The ripe fruits are expectorant, improves the interest in food, cold, and burning sensation.

Its milk is cooling, is binding in nature, promotes physical strength, and treats odema.

Uses

Treats Stomach pain-

Give the fruits of country fig to eat.

It cures stomach pain effectively.

Protects Fetus from Abortion-

Give milk, infused with the fruits of gular with meals.

It promotes the growth of the fetus and protects from abortion.

Treats Bronchitis and Bronchial Asthma–

Make squash of its fruits.

Give this to the patient regularly, especially in summers.

It treats bronchitis and bronchial asthma.

Helpful cure in Urinary disorders-

In case of yellow urination, take the dried peel of its fruits and grind them into a fine powder.

Mix an equal amount of sugar candy in it.

Give 6-6 gm of this powder with cow’s milk to the patient, twice a day.
